The R.O.C. Confirmation Series is a comprehensive model for the preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Dear Candidates and Families:
Welcome to St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Confirmation Preparation!
I hope this is a very special time in your life, as you begin the final steps on your faith journey towards the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation. This preparation process is an important one, as it will help you discern your readiness to celebrate this sacrament.
This year we are changing our Confirmation Preparation Process a bit. We are going to a Day Retreat program. Candidates will still get the appropriate number of classes, but it will be done in a 6-hour retreat format. We hope this will ease the stress on the part of the candidates and their parents. During the course of the year, teens are expected to serve in the parish and their communities, attend Sunday Mass every weekend, and attend all Super Sunday Sessions. During these gatherings, the teens are exposed to the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic faith. Here, they will discuss and explore what it means to be a Catholic and how to live their lives in a world that thrives on moral relativism.
Our first year students are required to attend 3 Super Sunday Retreats as well as the mandatory Sean Forrest Retreat on December 6, 2010. Your teen will be given two dates for each of the three retreats on the Class Request Form. We are asking students to assign a number 1 to their first choice and a number 2 to their second choice for all three retreats. This does not guarantee them a spot in their first choice but we will do our best to accommodate all requests. The Religious Education Office will assign the classes by the end of August and we notify you of the dates your teen was assigned. If there is a hardship and a student absolutely needs one retreat over the other please indicate the hardship on the space provided at the bottom of the Class Request Form.
Confirmation students will also be required to complete all tasks listed on their Confirmation Check List. It is very important that you keep track of the reports and projects listed and that paperwork is completely and correctly filled out and returned to the Office of Religious Education Office in a timely manner. Please keep a copy of all paperwork that is turned in the Religious Education Office for your own records.
If you are unable to attend your scheduled class for any reason you need to contact the Religious Education Office. If you have extenuating circumstances, which force you to miss class, please contact me in advance, so I can work with you.
Please fill out the enclosed registration form and return with your payment. The Confirmation fee is $125. However, an early discounted registration fee is $100 is in effect through June 30, 2010. Parents should not refrain from registering due to inability to make payment at this time.
We are looking forward to the upcoming year and I invite you to contact me if you have any questions.
